there's a lot of crappy answers here. not trying to offend anyone, but they dont know what they're talking about.
take it from possibly the most renowned strength coach in the world, mark rippetoe. he made up a program for people like you, called 'starting strength'.
the basics of it are to eat more than your daily BMR and lift weights at the same time. you dont have to drastically change your diet, but try to add in lots of protein and carbs. obviously, cut the crap out of your diet like fast food and soda, if you consume them on a regular basis.
anyway, look up starting strength, its probably the best workout for you.
as i said, rippetoe knows what he's talking about. so many people are misguided by the sea of information about this topic out there, but you can trust starting strength.

also make sure your excersising well so that you tone and gain muscle not just store it as fat
Start running and drink protein shakes. Go to the gym, and dont anything fattening, it just makes you unhealthy.
