How am I supposed to burn more than I eat everyday?!

Question: How am I supposed to burn more than I eat everyday?
I probably have about 2,000 each day. I'm 16 years old. People tell me to burn more than I eat, how is that possible? That means about 3 hours on the elliptical with my pace. I don't have that time right now. And isn't the a basal metabolic rate, where I need calories to LIVE?! So if I burn them all, I'm be running on empty. Right??

I agree with Ohthechemistry...all you need to do is burn a little extra...just by being alive and walking around you are probably burning 1500 to 1700 calories a day! So, if you eat 2000...you have an extra 300-500 per day that will either be stored or burned off. So, go for a run, go biking or swimming...or, eat a bit less. Or, some combo of both.

Ah, ok. After a bit I understand what you're asking.

When you lose weight, you are forcing your body to burned stored fat reserves for calories in lieu of food you've recently eaten. So if you have 2000 calories each day, you need to cause your body to need to burn in excess of 2000 calories. If you burn 2500 cals in a day and eat 2000 calories worth of food, the 500 extra will come from your fat cells (assuming you're working out; if you starve yourself the body can end up burning through muscle, which is really bad).

Also, you know that some of those 2000 calories are used to power your body for things other than exercise, right? It probably takes at least 1200 just to keep you going for a day.

... depending on the speed of ur metabolism you can burn over 2000 calories a day while not doing anything... the more muscle u have for example the faster ur metabolism is. 1lb of muscle burns 50 calories a day while 1lb of fat burns 1 calorie... u dont burn more than what u eat doing exercise it just burns extra calories that ur metabolism doesnt.

Try this, after 5pm, stop all carbs - eat proteins, dairy, fresh fruits and veggies, no grains, no desserts, no sweets, no breads. Drink water, no alcohol, no soda-not even diet soda. This alone will help you lose weight. Keep exercise going, though, for staying toned and maintaining a strong heart : )

Everything you eat has a certain snout of calories. Add them up for the entire day. Go work out plug in his much you wanna burn an go.its not about 'your' pace. Its what's gonna kick your *** in shape.
