I don't necessarily agree that jogging is the "best" way to burn calories and lose fat, but if you're determined to jog, try this: start slowly. Take small steps for the first 5-10 minutes, then push yourself a little harder for 10-15 minutes or so. Walk or jog very slowly to cool down for 5 minutes or so (this is important).
Next time you're at the gym look at the elliptical machine and see if it has an interval setting. If it does, give it a try. You'll sweat like crazy and it won't kill your knees like jogging can.

look out for cars. And wear a good pair of running shoes.
