What do you think of the Cambridge Diet?!

Question: What do you think of the Cambridge Diet!?
Answers:
Great Diet, You should do it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The Cambridge diet and me are a bit of a sore subject to be honest!. I apologies in advance for the long response!.

The Cambridge diet and Lighter-life (and such like) are known as VLCD (Very low calorie diets) and have been used by Doctors managing obesity since the 1970s, it's not a new 'fad' diet'!. These diets are NOT designed and should not be used for people who only have one or two stone to lose!. These diets are generally designed for people with a BMI of 35/40+ Who are morbidly obese!. This diet aims to help people who are this overweight, look at their unhealthy 'addiction' to food!. This diet allows them to take food out of the equation (replace it with meal replacement packs) and then re-introduce food back into their diet on a healthy controlled level once weight loss has been achieved!. I don't agree with diet pills and fad diets, I agree with Dr Franks basic healthy eating and vigorous exercise method!. HOWEVER, I do feel feel VLCD's do have a place in the treatment of severe obese people!. It will NOT burn heart muscle or otherwise essential muscle, It's simple, why would the body burn heart muscle when it has storage fat to burn!? If it did burn essential muscle, many people would have died of the this diet!. MILLIONS of people world wide have done this diet!. On the lighter-life diet only ONE woman has died and the coroner concluded the cause of her death was NOT as a result of the Ligherlife diet!. The water is NOT replacing food!. it's simply replacing the water that one absorbs from food that you aren't getting on meal replacement diets!. Your not actually restricting your body of food, your just forcing your body to take the food from a different source (your storage fat)

The only time your body will burn heart muscle is when someone like me who is 6!.5 stone went on this diet, and this would happen because there simply would not be enough storage fat for the body to burn up and it would look towards muscle!. The diets are ONLY for people who have 3 or more stone to lose and this diet is monitored!.

I know many Dr's at work who have done this diet!. It is not unsafe as long as you drink the water and have all your meal packs!.

The effectiveness of this diet is however another story, if you come off this diet and put the same food back in your mouth that you were eating before (the same quantity) you will get fat again, it isn't the diet putting food back in your mouth, it's the person!. No one can blame a diet for them getting fat!. I went to a recent obesity management workshop at work, and this diet was discussed, and VLCD's have been proven helpful when combined with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)!. Again I don't agree with this diet for people who have a BMI below 35/40!. This diet is not for people who have simply over indulged in food, There are different categories of obesity, I simply feel when people have like 5 stone or more of weight to lose, this problem isn't just over indulgence, it needs to be treated more like an addiction (food addiction)!. It's simply pointless telling people who that obese to just, "eat healthy foods" you can get fat eating fruit if you eat too much of it! This diet really won't work for everyone and there is an argument to say that considering the long term results are not that effective, this may be a waste of time, but it has helped many people!.

To conclude, VLCD's do have their place in obesity management!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I beleive it was very popular in the 1970's when starvation diets were the in thing!. Since they got sued countless times and everyone thta tried it gained back all their weight plus much more, it fell out of favor!. Diets don't work!. Period!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

its a great diet but i think weight watchers is betterWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's very difficult to stick to as there is so little to eat, I wouldn't advise it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My mum did it and didn't lose much weight, she also said the food was horrible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
