Question: My girlfriend is anorexic, help!!
Hi all!. My girlfriend of 5 years has been clinically diagnosed as Anorexic!. She is 24 years old and has a BMI of <15 (she weighs 39kg and is 165cm tall)!.

She doesnt seem to care or do anything to help herself get better!. I've tried so many things, suggested things, gotten her family involved and more, and she just ignores all my woes and acts like I am against her!.

I've suggested a psychiatrist, the hospital, everything, and yet she doesnt do a thing as if she doesnt care!. She is addicted to the gym, and when she goes she works out so hard that it's horrible to watch!.

Does anyone have any idea on what I should do!? Please help, because I'm worried that she will die if nothing is done!.

Thanks in advance guys and sorry to unload such a difficult question on you all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i am a nurse and have looked after a few young women with anorexia (i'm in no way specialized in this though, i work on a medical unit and they get sent from the psychiatric unit to us when they are physically too sick to remain in the psychiatric unit)!.
Some things I have learned is that for these women it's not about the look so much as it is the control!. Control of their lives through their food, or lack of it!. She does need professional help and there are chances she could relapse!. Like someone else said enlist the help of her family if they aren't already involved!.!.!. it can do serious long-term dammage physically and mentally!. I don't mean to scare you getting into the details of the damage it can do, but it definitely goes beyond what you see on the outisde!. The person can be weak, dizzy, confused, thin nair and hair, hair grows on the back, liver/heart/kidney dammage, even brain dammage because even the brain needs a bit of fat to function properly!.
On the bright side with proper help the person can go thru therapy and get to the root of their problem over time,!.!.!. again like I said i don't work regularly with this type of clientele but the doctors and nurses who do can explain it all to you, your girlfriend and her family!.!.!. i'm sure it will help that she has a nice supportive boyfriend!.!.!. even if being nice appears to be mean now by bringing her into treatment!.!.!.!. the doctors will take care of the details so they'll look like the bad guys instead of you and your family (ie!. they will tell her she can't leave the hospital and it won't be your fault)!. Hopefully she won't be put on bed rest or require a feeding tube, I obviously can't tell from an internet post how severely sick your girlfriend is, but you do sound concerned !.!.!. so the earlier this is dealt with the better in the long run!.!.!. it wont be easy road to go down, but it sounds necessary!.!.!.
Indeed this question goes way beyond the scope of this forum but I hope it's a starting place for you to help your girlfriend!.
Take care!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you need to run an intervention, have her family, close friends, a doctor, and a representative from the hospital present!.

Use a guilt trip, 'if you love me you would listen and get help'!.

She is probably used to being called hot for having a slender figure but has now gone carried away, point out women with healthy waist lines and tell him how you find it attractive and would like to see her like that!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

i was exercise addicted too and partially becoming anorexic it is a very difficult and hard thing too break out of and im still not over it!. I was driven to the point because of what people would say about me nd that really influenced the way i wud look at myself!. i think that the most important thing to do is to tell her that she is beautiful and wud be no matter what size, make her feel special and loved and accepted!. that's all i ever wanted so maybe it may help her!. maybe!. hope she can get better soonWww@Answer-Health@Com

Suggesting things has been great but, if its as bad as you made it look you should probably result to force!.

She needs to be taken to a place where it specializes with eating disorders (sorry!.!.!.no place comes to mind)!.

If you have to, force her to look at past women who have died because of it!.

Remember, right now her weight is the only thing she seems to have control of (in her head) their are no quick fixes so only time will tell Www@Answer-Health@Com

I really dont think this question is very suitable for this website!. However seeking advice and opinion's from professionals!. Perhaps a rehab or somewhere to help her more than you can as you are limited, with your own life!. After getting help from pros she may realize how you have been there for her!.

Like said im no expert, seeking medical advice or clinics can help loved ones a lot!.
Good luck Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have worked with a herbal based nutrition programme, that first of all, helps them feel better about themselves, and then they can start putting on weight!. If they don't feel better about themselves, it is very difficult to help them'!. I currently have a girl who has gained 1!.5 kg in her first week!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

get her to a doctor, even if you have to force her!. she thinks that she is doing the right thing and that she doesn't need a doctor!. if you love her you would do what's best for her right!? time for some tough love and force her to go if you have to!. she is seeking for control, and she needs help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

why dont you take advantage of her!? turn her into your dream machine or superstar!.!.!.hehe!.!.!.later~Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was anorexic at 15!. I have to tell you that it took alot for me to listen!. When I did finally go to the doc I was so under weight that my body was eating its own fat to survive and I was hospitalized!. You really need to get her parents involved and have an intervention!. Maybe have a doc present!. This is very serious!. The problem is, if you haven't eaten much in awhile your stomach shrinks and i is almost impossible to eat even if you want too!. Please help her and don't worry if she is mad!. In the end you are saving her life, trust me!. It is peobably worse than you think!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
