Someone disagreed with me - but the question was how many calories in a pound, and different food elements contain different caloric content...

Carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram
Fat contains 9 calories per gram
One U.S. pound = approximately 454 grams
...so a pound of fat will contain more calories than a pound of carbohydrates or protein.
If she'd asked how many calories need to be burned to lose a pound of fat, that would have been different!
