The only fast and safe way to control weight is to burn more calories than you consume. I am on a calorie restricted diet by choice and then I work out three times a week. Working out, though, kick starts my metabolism so that I burn fat in my sleep. I also don't recommend a snack before bedtime as that snack will just be stored as fat later on. Like I said, the simple solution to losing weight is to burn more calories than you consume and perform strength training excersises to increase your metabolism.
