How does burning Kcal actually translate into weight loss?!

Question:

How does burning Kcal actually translate into weight loss?

So I've started doing "measurable" aerobic workouts that say I've burned 393 Kcal over the course of my workout routine. That sounds good and all, except I have no clue what that actually translates to in terms of weight loss. 393 Kcal sounds like a lot and all, but am I doing enough at a time to be effective? What is the average amount of Kcal I'd need to burn to be loosing weight? Is there a type of formula I can use to calculate it?

Answers:

3,500 calories is equal to one pound in body weight.....
I'll leave you to calculate your own requirements ...
