How to lose butt muscle?!

Question:

How to lose butt muscle?

I'm a guy with a really big butt. I've been trying to get it a lot smaller but I don't see it happening. The problem is that I don't think its fat in my butt but I think it's butt muscle. When I flex my butt it's all hard and for that reason I think it's muscle. Is there a way to get it really small without getting surgery?

I'm sorry to have to say this but as far as I am aware, your skeletal frame and natural level of musculature are two things you can't do a great deal about. You can build up muscle, and if you cease to do the level of exercise that built it up to that state then your body will quite quickly break the muscle back down again becuase it's not being 'used' (muscle mass is maintained through exertion causing micro-tears in the fibers and your body patching up these with further fibres, so if you aren't stressing the fibres then the body gets the message that they aren't being used and breaks them down as believe it or not it's easier to break down than fat). Once the 'excess' muscle is gone the body will switch its attention to its entire fat reserve before then switching back to muscle again and beginning to cannibalise all of your muscle.

So as far as i'm aware, the only way to reduce the size of your butt muscles would be to do next to zero exercise and then starve yourself literally half to death at which point your whole body would be emaciated and skinny and your butt would certainly be smaller then! However.....the problem is that our natural level of muscle is determined by our skeletal frame and the need to move it about: so after a period of building yourself back up, eating normally and exercising, your butt would probably grow back to much the same size again :(

Surgery on such a large muscle mass could I would have thought would be difficult if not impossible to achieve a satisfactory result with and could have repurcussions such as damage to your ability to walk or support your torso (your butt is actually a muscle group that does a lot more than people give it credit for).

My advice would be that all of us to a certain extent have to live with what we have and that for every lady (or gent, i'm not predjudiced :-p) who is put off by your butt there will be one or two who think it's super cute and another couple who won't care either way. Just smile and be happy you have a strong butt :)

ps - sorry if that was a bit waffley but i wanted to try and help as much as i could.
