A BMI is not accurate at all!.
It was taken on a very small percentage of the population back in the 70's and has no bearing on what people are like now!.
It doesn't take into account muscle mass, somatotype or ethnic population differences!.
A much more accurate test (and just as easily done) is to measure your body fat levels!.
I'll give you an example, Im 6"2 tall, muscular with 15% body fat (lower end of healthy range), I work out a lot and as a result I am fit and healthy with lots of muscle!. Yet according to the BMI I am clinically obese, because of my weight (muscle weighs more than fat!.)
So I wouldn't worry too much about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A BMI of 18!.5 to 25 may indicate optimal weight; a BMI lower than 18!.5 suggests the person is underweight while a number above 25 may indicate the person is overweight; a BMI below 17!.5 may indicate the person has anorexia or a related disorder; a number above 30 suggests the person is obese (over 40, morbidly obese)!.

Not hugely accurate!.
If a rugby player was tested - they are packed with muscle - they would register as un-healthy on the BMI scale as BMI only takes weight and height in to consideration, not muscle mass!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
