Did I workout too hard?!

Question:

Did I workout too hard?

I was jogging this morning and I tried to go a little faster than normal. It is warm in my house today, and I started to get really hot, so I slowed down, but then after I slowed down my stomach started cramping up really bad. It became so painful that I had to get off and I thought I might throw up. I laid down for a while in pain and then after about five minutes I started sweating bullets - like the sweat was just pouring off me. I also felt like I was on fire I was so hot. I have worked out hard before but I've never had this happen to me before. It took me about 10-15 minutes to recover from this.

Has anyone else had this happen? Does this sound like I was just working out too hard, or something else? I'm wondering if I had a panic attack or something else...although I've never had a panic attack before. What do you think?

Answers:

Even people who do extremely hard workouts can have this happen. If you have been doing the same workout for a long time, and then changed it a little today, you could have shocked your body. It becomes accostomed to workouts. It naturally wants to expend the least amount of energy to accomplish a goal, and has learned what that requires for that workout. Try varying your workouts daily, try running shorter distances a little faster, then run slightly longer slower.

You also could have been slightly dehydrated and your body wasn't ready to work out. I'm no doctor, but those are the two scenarios I have seen before.
