Does flexing make you stronger or make your muscles bigger?!

Question:

Does flexing make you stronger or make your muscles bigger?

I've got a foot problem right now and also poison ivy on my hands, so most physical activities for the time being are impossible.

I was wondering if say, flexing my abs tightly for like 5 minutes or whatever will make them stronger, or more defined or if there would be any gain at all. Or what if I flex my bicep and tricep, will there be any gain? Because my muscles do start to get sore after flexing a while and I've always wondered this.

Answers:

Flexing does not build or maintain muscle mass or strength. When you flex you are forcing blood out of the muscles and bunching the tendrils which make up your muscles.

In order to keep definition you need to do crunches and isometrics. Isometrics is where you place "stress" on certain body parts inorder to obtain lean muscle mass and definition. An example would be to stand in a doorway and push using your forearms to work on your shoulders and part of your back.

Sorry to hear about your issues.
