Very subjective question and here is why!.

For most, metabolism is how many calories you use in a day!. High would mean you use a lot and can eat a lot without fear of gaining weight!. Low is just the opposite!.

Say you eat very little, maybe 1400 calories a day and never gain weight!. Your eating habits may have something to do with that!. Someone else may eat 2000 and never gain a thing!. Someone else may eat that 2000 and gain a couple pounds a month, which over a year adds up!.

A lot of factors go into what effects your metabolism!.

Your lean muscle mass - The more muscle you have, the more calories you need since muscles need more calories!. This is why bodybuilders eat upwards of 4000 calories a day!.

Your dietary habits - What you eat!. Junk food tends to convert to fat in almost everyone!. How often you eat also plays a part!. If you eat frequently but small meals, your metabolism can go up because your body leaves starvation mode, a state most of us are in, and uses calories as soon as it receives them!.

As for an answer for you to find out about what your basal caloric usage is, eat often and count your calories!. Check your weight and if it hasn't gone up, increase your intake!. True weight increase takes place over weeks and months, so don't expect to see a difference in two days!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You'll be able to tell!. If you can eat quite a bit of food without gaining a significant amount of weight, or if you gain weight even while watching what you eat!. I'm sure there are medical tests that can be done, but most people go on the cues they get from their body to decide whether they have a metabolism that's faster or slower!.

Chances are if you're over weight you have a slow metabolism, and if you're underweight, you have a fast one!. This is only assuming you eat the proper amount of food per day!. You can have a fast met!. but eat so much and do no exercise that you get fat, or have a slow met!. but eat so little and exercise too much and be thin!. The only way to tell is if you eat your daily recommended value and see where your body ends up!.
