Hello masteredge,

These are the supplements that you always need year round in order to gain muscle. If you have a limited budget, these are the only ones that you need to concern yourself with.

Multiple Vitamin And Mineral Formula
Essential to insure that your body will operate at maximum efficiency. Why? Because on a very simplistic level, without vitamins and minerals it is impossible to covert the food that we eat into hormones, tissues and energy.

Vitamins
Vitamins are organic compounds (produced by both animals and vegetables) whose function is to enhance the actions of proteins that cause chemical reactions such as muscle building, fat burning and energy production. There are two types of vitamins: Fat soluble vitamins - they get stored in fat and therefore if taken in excessive amounts will become toxic such as A, D, E, and K. Water soluble vitamins - they are not stored in the body such as the B-Complex and Vitamin C.

Minerals
Minerals are inorganic compounds (not produced by either animals or vegetables). Their main function is to assure that your brain receives the correct signals from the body, balance of fluids, muscular contractions and energy production as well as for the building of muscle and bones. There are two types of minerals:

1) Bulk minerals - Which are called this way as the body needs them in great quantities in the order of grams such as Calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and phosphorus.

2) Trace minerals -Which are needed by the body in minute amounts, usually in the order of micrograms such as chromium, copper, cobalt, silicon, selenium, iron and zinc.

Where Can You Get Vitamins and Minerals From?
I like simplicity and because of that I tend to get most of my vitamins and minerals from multiple vitamin/mineral packs. The ones I personally use are the Prolab's Training Paks, which are loaded with potent levels of essential nutrients and bioactive compounds.

You have to be very careful with what type of vitamin and mineral formulas you choose as some don't always contain what the labels claim (thanks to unscrupulous manufacturers) and some come from such poor sources that they are not absorbed very well by the body. Other Reputable Companies On The Market That I Have Used Include: Twinlabs, EAS, Weider, Labrada, Shiff, Optimum Nutrition, Advanced Nutrition, Higher Power Nutrition, and Champion Nutrition

make sure you are drinking the sahkes within 20 minutes of your workout. i heard creatine works too

ok you need glutamine, good quality protein( i use EAS), and i also use NO-Explode. and a good multi vitamin.
the protein and glutamine are for your muscles to rebuild, and the NO Explode is to make your work out more intense. but you have to push your self so you feel the burn. i've been using this stuff for football and ive raised my bench max 50 pounds in 2 months and my arms and stomach have gotten more defined.

i may only be 14 but i've been lifting for a little over 5 years. stay away from the creatine unless its anabolic or it will crystallize in your liver. i think your best choice is some Pro-Nos protein or some 100% whey.

Creatine is very safe, doesn't have much of a taste really, and works really well especially in the short term. After taking it for a while (6months) it seemed not to be doing much but you can try it out. It helped me especially staying active the whole day. After my first couple sets I would always be pooped but creatine helped me to be able to lift as much as my first set all the way through the workout. And then if i wanted to play other sports, I still had enough energy. It probably works better for some people than others but I felt like it gave me a nice boost in my energy level when lifting.

I'm not sure what the best dosage is, I just know there is a loading phase where you double your dosage for the first week you start supplementing the creatine. But the companys often try to get you to take more of the creatine than you need so you will buy more. Just be aware of that.

And in argument to the person above me. How long you have been working out has little to do with how much you know about supplements. I'm guessing since he is 14 and completely wrong about creatine, (Anabolic? Crystalize?) that he hasn't really read any reputable information on supplements.

Protein supplementing is ok but keep in mind you get protein from most healthy foods like milk, eggs, chicken, and tofu. You may already have enough protein in your diet and supplementing would just be a waste of money. Plus whey protein tastes like **** I hear.

Lots of Food and patience is the key, not to mention an effective routine.

There's no non-steroidal / hormonal product on the market which will give you quick gains.

What does your routine look like?
