Gained 4 pounds, despite not cheating. How??!


Question: Hve been dieting for over a month. Have lost 12 pounds, and felt really good. This morning I step on the scale, and have gained 4 pounds since yesterday. Not cheating, eating salads, yoguart, steamed vegs and fruit. The only snack I have had is small snack size bags of prezels. Any ideas?? Don't want to get discouraged.

When do you weigh yourself? Do it the SAME time every time you step on the scale. I got very disappointed 2 weeks ago when I stepped on the scale to see a 5lb weight GAIN in a night! I was so shocked I didn't know what to do. Then I realized one thing. I had just worked out and drank 2 bottles of water (despite not eating anything yet) before that. Water is a temp. weight gain and right after you exercise, you may "gain" weight as I've learned/read.

Pretzels are actually healthy for you (depending of course on the salt on them), so that shouldn't gain you weight.

1 REAL lb of fat is equal to 3500 calories. Which means between yesterday and today, you would have needed to consume nearly 14,000 calories to actually gain 4lbs in a day. I'm pretty sure you didn't do that. ;)

Most likely your body is retaining water. Shake it off, work out, eat healthy, and check again in a few days.

The best way to know if you gained weight, take your measurements. The scale can lie sometimes, but the inches won't.

I think its a fluid thing. See how you go on scales the next day or so. Pretzels may have caused you to retain fluid plus they are full of sodium which does this also.

yep, same happend to me, not sure why the weight went back on, but it was off within a few days, KEEP AT IT. maybe try a bit more exercise might help. best of luck

Pretzels are very high in sodium. Diet as normal, but bump up your water intake for the day or two. See if this help. Stay away from salty snack, and if you do have them drink lots of water.

maybe when you lost 12 pounds u felt really happy but without noticing u kind of cut down that diet and put on 4 puonds!

I always find the same happens to me when its a few days before my period, due to water retention, so it could just be that, which will disappear soon.
If not, then make sure you weigh yourself first thing in the morning, before breakfast.
