Is coffee bad for my diet? I have like 2 cups a day, NO SUGAR and fat free cream!

Question: I drink an extra two glasses a day of water because i read for every cup of coffee add a cup of water because it can retain water and dehydrate you, is this true? Im kind of hooked on coffee so i'm hoping it is not bad for my diet.

Two cups of coffee a day is fine. The normal serving of coffee (6oz.) will not have any major effects on your diet. Coffee is a natural diuretic, which means it will make you lose a little bit water, not dehydrate you. Tea and sodas are also diuretics. If you are drinking extra water to make up for the slight diuretic effect of coffee, then that is even better. While it is best to drink coffee black, a fat free creamer is a much better choice than a full fat one.

And caffeine will not hurt your diet, it may even help it a little. Caffeine has been used for years as a natural way to boost metabolism... that's right, caffeine will boost your metabolism. However, it is important not to overdo it, or you may get shaky or have trouble sleeping. A good time to drink a cup of coffee is before your workout, as the caffeine boost will keep you from getting tired.

Personally, I prefer green tea for my caffeine lift. It doesn't have as much of a kick to it (which is good for me as I am very sensitive to caffeine), and it packs tons of antioxidants for your health. If you do drink any teas, be sure to add a little lemon juice as new studies are showing that the lemon juice helps you absorb more of the good stuff in tea.

Sure is bad, for you.

Coffee not only makes you lose water.. it snips away at your calcium levels (which affects older women, more). While cutting the milk & sugar is better than intaking them.. your teetch are still being yellowed by the coffee. Then, there's the drug that makes you want/need it every morning in the first place.. as if it "wakes you up"... and that caffeine really is as additive as something else, that would be contraband 2x a morning for a 'pick me up'. (Funny what was in Coca-Cola, 70-80 years ago.)

It's incredible how you, me and 100 million people in the USA (alone) have cups & cups of coffee.. and even worse... I just read a Snapple Iced Tea label last week.. that 1 coffee plant's beans = just over 1 large cup of coffee (!).. Know what that means? Coffee plants are taking up a ton of land -- in exactly the parts of the world where Rainforests & animals in them are being threatened (hello? "java"? Madagasgar), Brazil, etc.)... which means that OUR COFFEE comsumption is probably the WORST THING we are doing against the environment.. and that's NOT being told???

Guess the ad-TV $$$ of all the coffee-related businesses keeps this OFF the news, eh? (can you think of TV, without the many Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, McDonald's ads?) It's always those nasty cattle ranchers, right.. in Brazil & Africa.. and NO ONE mentions the coffee growers -- which would have to have VAST land, for all these plants? per day, think about the use/plants needed?

Al Gore doesn't see the $$$ in it, I guess, otherwise he'd prob. have mentioned it at least, no? (instead of vs. Big Oil and Beef? the coffee industry's affects are prob. twice these added together!).. or does Dunkin support Nat'l Geographic for them, to look the "other way" as well?

Well not if you drink 2 extra cups if water to make up for the water the coffee takes out of your body.

Two cups of coffee won't hurt you. In fact, there have been studies done recently that say its a good thing because a cup before a workout increases your endurance.

Just make sure to drink 2 extra glasses of water for each cup of coffee.

Yes, it's bad. My nutritionist told me coffee speeds up your digestive system, so you get hungry faster. (Obviously if you keep refilling your stomach with calorie free coffee you won't feel hungry, but you could do the same with good old water!) Decaf is no better because decaffeinated means some caffeine was removed, but it is not the same as caffeine free. Recent studies have shown some decafs have as much caffeine as regular coffees. There are currently no laws about the decaf label or limits as to how much caffeine a product labelled decaf can have, so you never know.

My moms been drinkin more coffee then that for years and she's perfectly fine.

Well it isn't "good" for it. But if that is your only vice you are fine.

yes it is harmful, especially since there might be an artificial sweetener in the place of sugar (cancer causer) and if it is caffeinated, especially bad for your heart because it speeds it up (caffeine is a stimulant)

YES, IT IT. I THINK YOU SHOULD DRINK MILK.

I don't think 2 cups of coffee are bad. I drank about 6 cups with FF creamer and lost 20 lbs.

No....it's fine.

well if its instant coffee then its bad, instant coffee has a lot of cholesterol in it and the double amount of caffein.

Coffee can be good for you. It does dehydrate but as long as you drink more water coffee can be great for your health. Too much of anything is bad.

it's fine. nothing bad will happen

If you're talking about a "lose weight diet" then the honest answer would be no... coffee acts as a natural hunger suppressant as well as speeds up your metabolism...

that said, it is bad in large amounts to your health.. for the same reasons.

It's good you're drinking water too, people don't understand that just living your life daily, you should be drinking like 64+oz of water... at least.

Coffee does a good job of robbing your body of liquids as it's a diuretic as well.

2 cups a day isn't a significant problem, I know plenty of people who drink well over that and are considered to be in good health.

If you're getting addicted, which you will, you might want to start weening yourself off of it for a few weeks... caffeine headaches in the early afternoon are a ***** :)

Yeah my mom has about 3-4 cups a day,she is healthy, slim and she adds milk and 3 teaspoons of sugar to it!! she does not gain weight from it.its perfectly fine, and you dont need to drink extra water, thats not true.

Na it is okay. If you use no sugar and fat free creamer I think you will be fine!! No worries I bet your just fine the way you are!! You might on the safe side if you are losing weight might want to only have like a cup. I would try it but, I don't drink coffee. Glad to help and thanx for your question!!!

Yes and no. While coffee and diet soda are calorie free, they both contain caffeine, usually, and they do not help at all with a healthy diet. There is something about the carbonated water in the pop and while the coffee is a good alternative it should be decaffenated. Problem arises when the 2 cups become 3 & 4 & so on. A good alternative is herbal tea like pepermint , herl Grey, and naturaly caffeine free green tea. Caffeine, while a diuretic , which is good extra water is necc. + 8 cups daily Minnimum

Technically, the only beverage that dehydrates you is beer/alcohol. Coffee only dehydrates you a fraction of a percent...People believe anything they read. Scientifically, only alcohol dehydrates your body. Go ahead and drink your coffee...it won't hurt your diet. However, it could affect your mood (contains caffiene). As for water, you are supposed to get 8 glasses a day. However, you get 20% of your daily intake of water from the foods that you eat. So technically, you only need 6.5 glasses of water a day. However, if you are really hungry, it maybe necessary to drink more water just because it will help you feel fuller when you are snacking so you won't over eat. Water is a good thing but don't over do it. Drinking a gallon in one hour will cause death. An 8 ounce glass of water every other hour and you should be fine.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no hottayyy! drink up
