Depending on your size, 8 glasses of water can be a large amount of fluid for the body to process. Also, a 'glass' can be very different from one person to the next. The intended amount is 8 ounces per glass, which, if you drink from tall glasses, is a lot less than you may be putting in there. The eight glasses a day is just a rule of thumb. The reason you want to do this is to replenish the water that you're losing through sweating, going to the bathroom, and other bodily functions. If you exercise a lot, sweat a lot, or have to urinate a lot, then you may very well need 8 or even 10 glasses of water that are, again, 8 ounces. If you tend not to lose as much fluid, then those 8 glasses may not be necessary. Also keep in mind that most foods that you eat contain some degree of water, especially fruits, so depending on your diet, you may consume a good amount of water just through food.

When it comes down to it, if you feel thirsty, water's usually the best thing to go for, but by the time you're thirsty, that means you're already getting a bit dry, so drinking before you get really thirsty is better. Also, if you get hungry at an odd time, have a drink of water, and see if it goes away. Many people mistake thirst for hunger.

Yes, you'll bust your kidneys and your bladder and you'll flush all the electrolytes out of your system if you drink too much.

You should be forcing yourself to drink it. 8 glasses a day is healthy, I think 3 glasses is probably not enough.

I force myself to drink water. I'm a believer in it. Scientific studies show most people are dehydrated.

Force yourself to drink the water. The best time to drink it is when you are doing something and therefore you won't really pay attention to yourself drinking it. It's hard for me to drink water too, but I try by putting it with ice because I like my drinks cold and I put the cup next to me when I'm doing my work with a straw so it's easier to drink. That way, I end up drinking more without knowing it and it actually quenches my thirst. Even though they say you should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, it really depends on your size as well. If you're small, maybe 5 cups could be enough, but if you're really big, you would probably need to drink the full 8 cups or more...Or you could try drinking FRUITY juices that are good for you. Example: orange juice, apple juice, v8, (jamba juice) etc! =)

no, you should not wait until you are thirsty!
being thirsty is a sign that you are already dehydrated,
which is not good. you dont have to be thirsty to drink 8 glasses of water a day. if 8 is too much, have a smaller goal like 6. 6 is still good.

If you're never thirsty, then it's ok to force yourself to drink more. I don't believe that everyone *needs* 8 glasses of water a day, but everyone certainly needs more than 3. You also get some water through meats and vegetables...maybe thats why you're not thirsty.

yes it is bad and what most people don't understand is that you get plenty of water in the food that you eat. you don't need excess water unless you are dehydrated.

Your pee should be colorless. If you have concentrated urine you make your kidneys work harder. 8 glasses a day is not too much. You also get water from the foods you eat as well. 3 glasses is a little thin but, if they are tall glasses then that is about 2 cups each (it is 8 glasses or 8 cups, you know the small glasses). So you might be drinking close to 6.
But if you are exercising or if it is very hot you do need to replace what you sweat out, so you do not become dehydrated. BUT thirst is the first sign of dehydration. Best to sip a little through the day.
And BTW "8 glasses" is not scientific. It was just pulled out of thin air. it was completley arbitrary.

your body needs the water. i know it's hard sometimes, because i don't tend to drink many fluids in the day. but you have to make up for the other things that you may drink that dehydrate you: coffee, tea, etc.

If you drink the 8 8oz glasses a day, you will find yourself feeling healthier. If you don't, then you will be dehydrated to a percent. My doctors told me that drinking 64 ounces a day will help with sinus systems from colds, infections, and respiratory conditions such as bronchitis and cold. It takes the water to wash the toxins out of your body.
If you are leary of washing out the electrolites, you can drink a bottle of gator aid once a day or every day or so.

Even if you don't feel like you are thirsty, does not mean you are hydrated.
