Casein protein?!

Question: I'm drinking pro complex protein by optimum nutrition every night before bed and I had thought it contained casein protein in it also only to find out it only has a small amount of calcium caseinate (which is one of the two major chemicals in casein protein)so my question is do I or should I buy casein protein?or should I continue to use my current formula of pro complex?another similiar question is should I be drinking my whey protein shake(seperate from my pro complex)daily or only days I lift?

it's ok to use pro complex before bed, even if it doesn't contain any casein protein. you don't need to complicate things that much unless you are a professional bodybuilder who needs to take in 400+ grams of protein per day.

Whey protein should be taken to supplement your protein needs whenever you need it. it's not something that will miracelously put muscle on you if you take it on workout days. it's just basically dried milk without the carbs or fat. So, taking 48 grams of whey protein is like eating 48 grams of protein from chicken breasts... you would never hear anyone saying "you need to eat chicken breasts on workout days only"...
if you can take in your protein needs from solid food, then you don't need protein shakes. but for those who take in 300+ grams of protein per day, it's easier to supplement their needs with whey protein.

hope that helps
