Help! I'm trying to diet, and my family keeps cooking late at night...?!

Question: My hubby and kids like to heat up corn dogs, etc... and it smells good, and I go to bed to try and ignore it, but it's THERE!

My husband is the same way - but his metabolism is fast, and he can get away with it.

Here's what I usually do:

- Before I succumb to eating unhealthy food for dinner, I prepare and eat healthy foods first (brown rice/pasta, grilled veggies, lean meats, fruit, etc.)

- I also make sure that I make healthier dinners for all of us. I have never been a fan of cooking two separate sets of food for dinner, as this would only tempt me and make me resentful for having to be on a diet. I modify some things for hubby, though - like when I make potato soup, I give him cheese and some bacon, and omit it from mine.

- I try to limit the number of unhealthy and over processed foods in the house. If it's not in the house, my hubby won't be able to prepare it - thus minimizing the temptation for me, and makes both of us healthier!

- If my husband has something unhealthy with our dinner, or if he has a sinful dessert after dinner, I always ask myself, "am I REALLY hungry?" Sometimes, I find that I just want to eat because I like the taste, but that I'm not even remotely hungry.

- I also remind myself that the food (corn dog, chips, cake, etc.) will be there in the morning, and it would be better to eat it then when I can still burn the extra calories, rather than at 9pm. I always tell myself, "It's not the last supper". :-)

- Lastly, if in the end I succumb anyway, I have a portion and allow myself to enjoy it, and not beat myself up about it. Then I go back to my healthy eating the next day, and try to have something lighter like a salad with grilled chicken to compensate for the day before.

These are just some of the things that have worked for me. I hope you find something there that could work for you. I also struggle with weight issues, and know how difficult it can be - especially if the rest of your family is not in the same situation. Good luck with your healthy eating plan!

lock you in your room and spray with cheap deodorant, that will surely kill the aroma

i found that when i was on a diet for a while, i was getting so accustomed to healthy food, that corn dogs, etc started seeming really gross to me...its hard at first though, but i don't want junk anymore

just hold yourself back, you can do it! in a few weeks, you'll get use to your diet. you won't even want to eat all of that junk food! trust me, you'll get so use to it. not that i've dieted, cause i'm too young, and i'm skinny. but from what i've heard, that's how it is. just remember, no matter how tempting the food might be. you can always have something just as good, except having it be low fat. keep your chin up and stay strong, you'll make it!

Chew gum or gargle with mouthwash so you get a minty fresh taste in your mouth. It'll help curve your appetite.

Eat some fruit or vegetables until you can better control your urges when you smell something you used to eat.Discipline is the word of the day. With proper focus, one can overcome mountains. Temptation requires cooperation.

Use nose-plugs, and put a pillow over your head, hehe

".."

when you get the urge to eat something like that drink a lot of water or milk, that way your full. if a craving lasts more then 10 minutes then your hungry, grab a fruit or something else healthy, you won't need a whole meal.

brush ur teeth itt helps believe me and clense ur face u reli wont wanna eat that **** once uve don that! good luck!

Tell them that you are trying very hard to diet. And please, please if they must cook, can they do it with less calories. Maybe they would like to get involved with it as well. Ask them, sweety
