Passing my food fears on to my children unwittingly.?!

Question: I would say I dont have an eating disorder as such but throughout most of my life when times get tough eating is a struggle it seems to be my natural reaction to stress. I have two children one who is of a naturally slim build and my youngest who is six who isnt, the trouble is when I see him eating unsuitable food I keep reminding him that he will get fat and chubby and be really poorly I know in my head that what i am saying is not right as he doesnt understand, I buy lots of fruit and veg and I dont denie them of biscuits in moderation but if I think they are eating too much i snap, What I really could do with is a bit of advice on how to deal with this before it gets out of control for myself and my boy. any ideas?

Jesus Christ! Do NOT tell children something like that!

Instead, tell them the truth ... that your body needs foods that have more vitamins and nutrients, and that the "junk" foods do not have any nutritional value.

Make a game out of guessing which foods are better... carrots or popcorn? celery or chips? kids LOVE to please their parents, and they will want to do well.

And...yes, you are passing on very unhealthy food and body image information to those kids.

tell him to eat healthier foods and make better dinners like ummmm..... poytatoes or some thing healthy

you have to let things be as natural they can be for them

so dont behave differently around them, as they might copy you. kids do tend to copy their elders.

but getting rid of some of their junk food is good tho

well i think u should have little bowls of veg and when they ar hungry and sya try a coupel of these and you can go back to the other stuf flater, then eventually if you keep doign it they should like the veg more. thats my opinon.

if you dont want your kids to get fat hide the sugary sweets somewhere or dont allow them to just take from the kitchen without your permision
or you could not buy as many fatty foods

You have a problem with food and your punishing your kids and thats wrong, they are kids for god sake cant you understand all kids eat junk food? I bet you did when you were younger. See someone about this or your kids will end up disliking you.
You cant stop them from eating biscuits, crisps or anything unhealthy. Sorry to sound harsh but you have a problem and your punishing your kids

you need to go to therapy for your problem because your "Fear" will make your children suffer because you cannot get over the fact there's other foods that are healthy other than veggies and fruit. i think you can be charged with child neglect and things that relate with that by doing this. not everything can make people fat, people choose to eat mcdonalds daily and never exercise. YOU NEED TO GO TO A THERAPIST AND GET HELP BEFORE YOU CAUSE YOUR CHILDREN PAIN.

It's already out of control!!! It would be much better to say that isn't healthy food! Other than health issues, being chubby or fat isn't bad! You are going to have the poor kid wanting to kill himself if he gains any weight! If you and your children are active and eat well, then whats the problem? You know your children are growing and they eat more during a growth spurt! You can harm them more emotionally by what you are doing than if they do end up chubby!!! All you have to do is keep your mouth shut and leave them alone! If you see them gaining a little to much weight, just get more active!!!

The best way to deal with this is for the children to see you eating healthily, that's what I did as my son was prone to putting on weight before he would shoot up and grow a few inches. Now, both of my children who are in their 20's don't have any weight problems. I only gave them one treat a day, be it a chocolate sweetie or a chocolate biscuit. I was quite fortunate that I get migraines with chocolate, so I don't eat it myself, but I still gave them one a day. I didn't give them crisps or rubbish, in fact, to this day my children have never tasted a fish finger as they got fresh fish, minus the bones as my father was a fishmonger so I knew how to bone fish which was handy. I used to allow them 3 pieces of fruit a day and they used to eat salads, stews, whatever we were having. If I thought my son was getting a bit chubby, I just took them swimming, to the park or for a walk to run off the excess calories. I could only do this after work, so it was a bit of a struggle, but we managed it and it has paid off as they are great today, thank goodness.

i think you need to ignore what they're eating and let them make their own way, sure you can buy healthy foods, but kids eat amazng amounts of food and hard to believe but they need the junk to. takem my older brother for example, he is 18 thin as a twig and eats enough for 5 of me LOL me myself, im an athlete MY ENTIRE LIFE IS MARTIAL ARTS! (and school) and i just started gymnastics. i dont eat very much but im still alil chubby (im 16)

everyone is diffrent and you need to let them understand how much they need by letting them eat! if one of your kids gets alil chubby its nothign to worry about, kids develope in diffrent ways

'You need to loosen up a little. Its ok to eat some junk food, just make sure you and your boys are exercising regularly.
