The stationary bike is good because it not only works the muscles in the legs but it keeps the knee safe from the pounding of walking and running.
If it is swollen, I would wait for the inflamation to subside first. Check with your doctor. After that, I'd head for the pool for some water therapy in movement to avoid rigorous impact. I did this for my knee when I injured it and it was the best thing I could have done.
try water aerobics and swimming coz it doesnt put too much pressure on your joints unlike running which could cause more damage to your already hurt knee. Good luck =)

when you get better you can do some lifting with a leg press with your feet low on the platform
