New gym membership...?!


Question: If I run a 8 minute mile on the treadmill, do some stairstepping, then do the leg-strengthening machines for a 3 sets of twelve for a while, is that a good workout? (I do things with abs and arms too, but i am talking about toning my legs!)

If you have excess fat on your legs, you're gonna need to run for a lot longer than 8 minutes to burn it off. I'd suggest running for at least 20 minutes if you can, and work your way up to 30 minutes.

As for lifting, try 3 sets of ten. You should be using enough weight that you can feel the burn after ten, but not so much that you hurt yourself. Start out with only a little bit of weight if you have to and work your way up.

Also, don't do leg lifting everyday. Try legs one day and arms the next day and keep rotating.

i would recommend a class called body pump - this uses weights to tone you up & burn lots of calories (www.lesmills.com) - give your local gym a call to see if they run it. i did this class twice a week & could see big difference fast!!
