How many times should you run a week?!

Question: spring is coming up soon and i have to run the mile for school, so i am starting to practice by running around my block 1 time ( it is 1 mile). how many times a week should i practice in order to improve my time, and at the same time get in shape? i heard that if you do exercising like this everyday then you won't loose weight and its not good for you.

At the absolute most, you should run every other day. Your body needs time to rest your muscles.

Also, if your a beginner, make sure you start out slow. You don't wanna hurt yourself.

probably every day would be best.. if not, do it every other day.. you could even make the inbetween days be longer, like 2 miles to break it up and give you more stamina

Three times then gradually work up from there until you are doing two blocks three times a day. It will build wind and satmina.

Start slow and listen to your body! If you hurt beyond the "I just worked out" soreness, STOP!

To get the maximum benefit, you'll have to run more than a mile (eventually). Work up to it. Get to the point that you can run a steady pace for 20-30 minutes. If that's not something you're used to, it may take a few weeks to get there, but make it a goal to run AT LEAST 20 minutes 3-4 times a week.

With practice, you should be able to run a mile in under 10 minutes. That's 6 miles per hour, just a little bit faster than speed walking. If you want to be able to improve your time in a mile, you need to train for longer distances, like 3 or 4 miles. At that distance, your heart rate will be up long enough to build heart strength and cardiovascular endurance.

Here's the trick to cutting down your mile time. Make 3 or 4 trips around the block three times a week. Then once a week, run around the block once, but push yourself harder than you would if you had to make several laps. You should see your time improve a bit each week.

I can't stress this enough: don't start with 3 or 4 blocks until your body says you can. You'll have to push yourself a bit to get there - it won't feel easy, but it shouldn't be painful either. Make sure to warm up and cool down, and do plenty of stretching before and after the run.
