It is a time-honored tradition to make resolutions at this time of year. If your resolution is to lose weight - and keep it off, then keep reading! Here are six simple tips that will have you losing weight in a balanced and healthy way.

1. Lose weight with water.
Water is essential for everybody - it is also the key to losing weight. If you haven't been drinking enough water, your body has developed a pattern of storing water. This water retention equals extra unwanted weight.

By drinking more water, you are not only flushing out toxins, you are also teaching your body that it no longer needs to store water. Drink at least 60 ounces of water (about 8 glasses) a day. Boil water and sliced lemons, and drink this throughout the day to help with fluid retention. If you are still not sold on the merits of water, try this on for size: water is a natural appetite suppressant.

2. Soup up your weight loss program.
A simple dietary change will have you shedding pounds: eat a bowl of soup at least once a day. Nutritious, low-salt soups will nourish you as they flush waste from your body. People who eat a serving of soup daily lose more weight than those who eat the same amount of calories but don't eat soup. Go for homemade soup whenever possible, as canned soups are loaded with salt and chemicals.

3. Eat early to keep weight off.
The human body follows a circadian rhythm, which means that the same foods eaten at breakfast and lunch are processed differently than when eaten at dinner. Studies show that when you eat your daily protein and fat at breakfast you tend to lose weight and have more energy; however, eating the same things at dinner tend to increase tendencies toward weight gain. I suggest that you eat your last meal of the day by 7 p.m.

4. Eat smaller meals, more frequently.
Follow an eating schedule with five little meals every day. Eating steadily through the day keeps you from becoming famished and overeating at your next meal. Make a low-fat trail mix from raw almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried plum, and apples and have it available at all times to avoid the tempting lure of high-calorie snacks.

5. Adopt a balanced approach to your diet.
Most of the fad diet programs out there nowadays are extreme in a few recommended foods, or else deprive the body of food altogether. This works in opposition to our metabolism and the results usually don't last, producing a yoyo effect that depresses your metabolic function - not to mention your self-esteem. We are natural beings that need a balance of nutrition from all sources.

Your diet should consist of a balance of organic sources of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Instead of white rice and pasta, opt for brown rice, bulgur, millet, or buckwheat.

Eat more green, chlorophyll-rich foods such as broccoli, kale, spinach, and asparagus. Eliminate candy, sugar, soda, and all simple sugars from your diet. Excess sugar ends up being stored as fat in your body, which results in weight gain. Also, keep dairy to a minimum because most dairy products are high in saturated fat. Avoid fatty foods, processed or fried foods.

6. Walk off the weight.
The No. 1 cause of weight gain is inactivity. Physical activity is the key to speeding up your metabolism and burning excess calories. The best way to be physically active is to use your legs! Walk as often and as long as you can. Always take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Step outside during your break at work and take a walk around your building. Consider joining a local hiking club. Try taking a walk 30 minutes in the morning or 30 minutes in the early evening.

Don't fast, just up your protein, and lower your carbs. Fasting will put your body in shock, and turn on all calories into fat for energy.

drink slim quick and eat peas and carrots

UHHH...EAT LOW FAT FOODs............DUH

Thats stupid donn't do that. You need to eat, just eat low fat/calorie foods, get lots of protein, hit the gym, drink lots of water, and avoid all junk food and fast food and eat healthy .

You won't lose a whole lot of weight by the time school starts again (which I'm assuming for you is around the 7th?)

Just eat healthy... Not eating will only make you tired, and eat more later on. Exercising and drinking a lot of water is good, but you need to eat if you want to keep the weight off.

dont stop eating because as soon as you start eating again, you will gain all that weight back immediately and you dont want to be anorexic

Sure that would be a good idea if you want to end up in the hospital before school...just exercise and eat proportionally.

Relacore,or do what i had to do as a kid not eat for 3 days at a time and eat very little in between

atkins two week iintor phase works wonders....but that ties into the first answer you got

starving yurslef is unsafe

wt? you cant stop eating all you have to do is walk an hour every day eat right and exercise look at the other tenbillion question s like this one

Noooo! You'll screw yourself over like that.
Running is best for toning.
Drink lots of water like you said, between meals and chew gum whenever you're hungry. Don't go below 2 meals a day, please!
Water will fill you up and gum satisfies the eating urge.

this is the easiest answer of all: eat wright and exercise

You still have to eat. If you don't eat that your body will go into starvation mode and will use the rest of your muscles to get minerals and vitamins. then your muscles will be gone and you will gain about 30 pounds. You just need to eat healthy food. Go to a nutritionist and he will tell you what to do. DON'T EAT TO MUCH AND GET FATTER

you shouldn't just not eat for awhile, b/c then when you do, your going to gain the weight you lost back, plus you will loose muscle...just eat healthier, lots of green veggies, fruits, lean beef and chicken, and do drink lots of water... citrus fruit will help to curb your appetite... good luck and be safe

Don't stop eating, anorexia is no good.

The trick to losing weight is to simply take in fewer calories than you burn in a day. It's unhealthy to lose weight too fast, so you want to go gradually. Cut out sodas and sugary stuff from your diet, as well as chips and other empty calories. Go jogging.

Don't go overboard with the exercise, and don't go without food. Those are good ways to put you in the hospital.

Do not stop eating, that may lead to a variety of eating disorders. Basically, do not eat unhealthy foods and cut your portions by 1/3rd. Drink water instead of soda. And exercise a ton. (Make sure to make some sort of schedule that you can commit to, and avoid skipping days. I'd suggest running, and if you're a guy, sit-ups and push-ups to build muscle.)

STOP RIGHT THERE! Do not stop eating because if you don't eat you won't actually have the energy to exercise. You need to eat fruit and veg, have the fatty sugary stuff only once in a while, drink about 6 cups of water per day, exercise for at least 30 minutes per day...but what ever you do don't over do anything - especially the exercise. Try some variety with everything too, so for exercise try swimming one day then running another. Eat a variety of food too, so you haven't just got all dairy or all fruit and veg - mix it up a little. DO NOT STOP EATING THOUGH! This will lead to you becoming anorexic and you will feel weak and horrible!

I hope this helps, and don't rush things - take it slowly, as the end result will be better :-)

That's really not good to stop eating completely. What you need to do is to eat smaller meals throughout the day. Around 4 to 6. And just eat healthier. Cut out most sweets, fried food, and foods with alot of calories. If you stop eating completely you're body will end up starting to eat itself. Start to eat the lining of your stomach, the fat that is stored there, and after it's done with that it will start to eat muscle. So just drink lots of water, I really like the flavored water Aquafina puts out, they use Splenda to sweeten it just a little bit, and the flavors they use rock. Exercise everyday atleast 20 minutes, but don't over do it either or you'll strain and possible tear muscles so you won't be able to do anything at all. Also you can't expect your body to lose to much weight at one time, or that's not healthy either. Only between 1 to 3 pounds a week. Losing weight it always a struggle because you feel like you should lose more than you should. Stress can also be a factor to keeping weight on, or gaining it back. Just stick with a healthy diet, smaller portions and more times during the day, especially if you're going to be exercising alot, and try and cut out alot of fat, sweets, and alcohol.

Okay... first of all, that's STUPID! If you don't eat anything for a long time then eat something all your weight will just come back. And if you excercise and do not have the evergy to excercise (which you get from food), you will pass out. Here are a few tips.

1. Drink only water- It's really good for you, and it has no fat/calories. If you sip cold water every ten minutes for 1 day you burn 100 calories.

2. Cut down on starches. Fruits are good, but not if they are in heavy syrup. Veggies are GREAT! Try mushrooms, carrots, etc.

3. Eat a BIG breakfast, decent lunch, and small supper. So you will be full. If you eat in the morning you can burn off a lot of those calories. Instead of eating a big dinner and going straight to sleep and not burning anything.

4. Watch you fat gram more than calories. I would cut it down to 20/30 per day. It's pretty hard to do that... but a lot of food come in fat free.

5. Excercise! Walk for 30 min, do some crunches...etc.

Hope I helped!

yea drikn lots of water and eat low fat food. exercise alot like 2 times a day for 30min ea. Don't! drink water after u exercise cause u are going to get stomach cramps. Eat fruits and green vegetables

To completely stop eating will give you the exact opposite effect you are hoping for. When eleminating caloric intake from the body any type of protiens or muscle your body has will transform into fat cells for the simple fact that they go a longer way to sustain energy for your body.
Then when you finally do eat your body will quickly convert it to fat because it believes it will be the only food it will receive, seeing how it had just been starved.

Instead of fasting you should eat a well balanced meal. High protien foods keep you fuller longer. Do not try to cut out carbohydrates, but don't intake to many either, for this will bloat a midsection. Eat alot of veggies, high in fiber to help your digestive system. Drink alot, alot of water! When you think you are hungry drink water and wait. You may just be thirsty. Instead of eating out of boredom or emotion, drink water and take a few minutes before deciding to open that bag of oreos.
Begin excersizing. It doesn't have to be anything special to begin. Just make sure you don't hurt yourself. Walk, run, bike, lift light weights.
These things combined will aide you in losing weight not only somewhat quickly but also in the long run. If you adapt a much healthier lifestyle you will find your body at its best and your self respect, emotions, and outlook on life rise drastically.

lol your funny, like anerexia is going to make you lose weight healthily. if you dont eat and just workout your gonna get really drained weak and tired trust me. just get a diet routine to eat healthier foods, exercise and drink water.

Biggest factor in weight loss is....portion control! If you eat a lot of packaged meals, or your mom/dad makes a lot of dinners that are pre-prepared, packaged (pop into microwave type stuff) take a look at how many servings per container are in those meals. If you stick to smaller portions, take your time chewing each bite fully, you will feel fuller faster and not eat so much! Also make sure to drink water at meals (or juices like apple juice or orange juice), as that will also help fill you up with not so much food.

Try to stay away from high fructose corn syrup items like candy, chips, pop and such. Drinking more water is great! Exercising is also a great thing. If you can get in 3 days a week of 30 mins of cardio (raising heart rate), aeorbic (like jazzercise or something) and a bit of weightlifting (combination of all 3 in a 30 min workout). This will help you tone muscles, burn fat and work areas that need to be strengthened.

DO NOT try any 'diet pills' or appetite suppressants. They can cause more problems than they are worth. I would also suggest consulting your doctor about a good multi-vitamin to start taking, as a good mix of the right vitamins your body needs to function can also help you maintain a healthy weight.

Try to get to a healthy weight for your height, but don't try to become stick thin. Be comfortable being YOU first and don't try to cave into peer presssure. I'm glad you are trying to become healthier, and asking what else you can do is a good step towards a healthy dietary lifestyle. Good luck!

Not eating is the worst way to lose weight ,it doesnt work! I'm guessing what you actually want to do is to lose FAT.The best way to lose fat is to eat 5 small meals through out the day. This is because you can burn off the small amount of calories faster than than if you eat 1 or 2 huge meals a day. And of course exercise , I've put a link to a website that can give you some VERY good tips. Slim Shakes dont work either - try to eat vegetables and fruit :-) They're cheaper and natural aswell!!

Also search for a 'calorie counter' on google etc and you can add up the intake of calories per day ,and compare it too the amount you burn with an exercise calorie counter. Take the amount of calories eaten minus the amount of calories lost through exercise and you know if you'll be losing the weight!

I hope you acheive your goal! :-)
