Can sleep apnea cause chest pain?!
Question: Can sleep apnea cause chest pain?
Answers:
Chest pain in teens is almost always muscular in origin and taking some motrin/ibuprofen regularly for about a week will probably make this go away. It is caused by repetitive movements of your arms - either physical exercise, gym class, something you do at work or lifting. Sleep apnea is a contributing factor to heart attacks, mostly in men and doesn't increase their risk until they are around age 50 so you are worrying about something that is not happening in a 17 year old. You could have a mild viral illness and taking an over the counter decongestant may clear up your breathing. And, if you don't get some exercise in each day in order to make your body tired, your sleep is often more restless. Too much caffeine in the evenings, bright lights such as too much computer time, taking naps - all contribute to a restless night. This is probably short term and will go away on it's own without any treatment.
