how do herpes spread by rubbing?!

im trying to find out everything about herpes so i dnt spread them around my body...i was wondering if i rub a cold sore which isnt poped and no liquid is coming out and then rub it in my eye by an accident will that spread to my eye or is it supposed to be an open cold sore for it spread cause my eyes been red and im scared i hope i didnt spread it to my eyes... :(
