Why is asthma so persistent?!

Question:

Why is asthma so persistent?

I don't get it. I'm on 5 different meds, including an emergency med ( which is the ONLY one that works during an attack, and makes you very speedy as well), and that still doesn't completely 100% make my chest feel better. Its like this chronic, persistent nuisance, that interferes with life, and makes me scared to do things.

Everywhere I go I memorize where the nearest ER is. This is NOT a way to lead life. It sucks.

Before asthma I had anxiety/panic attacks, and I finally got those under control, and now I have to deal with this crap.

If my lungs are in such great shape (according to the docs), clear, and I don't smoke, and I'm big into fitness and exercize, I'm also young, why the hell do my lungs feel heavy, and like they're trying to choke me and kill me during attacks?

I thought healthy people didn't have such conditions?

I just don't get how asthma works, but I do know that it smothers/chokes me sometimes, and I get dizzy like I'm going to pass out. HELP!

Answers:

You know, maybe your doctors are right and your lungs are fine. Could it be that your panicking over the possible asthma attacks is just making things worse? I'm not a doctor or anything, but perhaps your mind's playing tricks on you. The more you feed the problem, the bigger it'll get. Worry less, don't think about it as much, and maybe it won't be as detrimental in the future.
