What should I carry in my purse, i need food because i have hypoglycemia?!

Question:

What should I carry in my purse, i need food because i have hypoglycemia?

My doctor said that I should carry some kind of food with me in my purse (or maybe a water bottle.) I need an easy to carry around food, can you help?

Answers:

I've had hypoglycemia for many years. I carry glucose tablets for when I get a bad sugar crash. You can get them at a Pharmacy where they have diabetic supplies.

I also try to keep a package of peanut butter cheese crackers handy so I can have something to tide me over to the next meal when I get delayed.

It's important to have carbs and protein in your snacks. This helps keep your sugar stable longer. But, when you crash you need sugar quickly.

If you don't have the glucose tablets you can get a bottle of orange juice or pepsi (not diet) out of a machine. They will get your sugar back up but, then you need to eat a balanced meal within an hour or you'll crash again even worse.
