Could this be asthma?!
Question:
Could this be asthma?
This sound disgusting but here I go. For years now I have been coughing up green/brown thick phlegm every day, noon and evening. At times I even find it hard to speak as I feel so 'clogged up' and phlegmy. Also I feel breatless a lot, even just walking up stairs I feel breatless. Im only 20 and its been getting worse since I was about 15. Both my mother and brother have asthma so I wonder if it could be this? Otherwise I feel healthy i walk every day and Im slim so its not weight related - what could it be? I would really appreciate any useful answers ... thankyou ...

Assuming you are a non-smoker it is the most likely diagnosis. There are no absolute tests for asthma. However a trip to your GP should resolve it. He should take a full respiratory history, arrange a chest X-ray and full pulmonary function on a vitalograph. If this is not diagnostic a 4-6 week therapeutic trial of inhaled steroids would be helpful.
