I caught C.Diff and now have ulcerative colitis, is there a direct link?!

Question:

I caught C.Diff and now have ulcerative colitis, is there a direct link?

I'm a physio who caught C.Diff from a patient on an infected ward despite following infection control policy very strictly. I now have ulcerative colitis for life and have to pop pills that aren't cheap on a daily basis, not to mention dealing with flare ups and a bad sick leave record which makes me less employable. I never had any digestive problems before getting C.Diff and was hardly ever ill and rarely took antibiotics or medication. I would like to know if there's a link between getting C.Diff and my Ulcerative Colitis. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answers:

Yes, there is a link between Ulcerative colitis and C-diff.. C-diff is usually kept in check by our helpful gut bacteria, but sometimes, especially when taking antibiotics, our guts get all out of whack.
here is an excellent website that explains it all:
http://www.cdiffsupport.com/aboutcdiff.h...

have you tried probiotics as well as antibiotics?
BTW, The studies are not inconclusive, there is def. a link!
