Urine test and leukocytes?!
Question:
Urine test and leukocytes?
I took a urine test and the dr's office called saying my test for the uti was negative. But that they did see leukocytes in my urine and I should follow up with a gyno for further testing.
What else could be causing this? Is it indicating an infection, or not?
Answers:
Leukocytes are evidence of inflammation. A common cause is a bacterial urinary tract infection, but there can be various other causes (other non-infectious causes of inflammation of the bladder, or viruses less commonly) or the inflammation could be coming from elsewhere in the genitourinary system (e.g. vaginitis).
