Severe Allergies- Please Help!? ( Very Detailed! )?!

Alright, so I'm 13 and have suffered severe allergies most of my life!. I've had to go to the allergist for years!. I know what I'm allergic to, and avoid them as much as possible!. Though I am allergic to cats; they sometimes help my allergies! How can this be!? Anyways, I've tried almost every OTC and prescription medicine! As soon as I find one that helps even the smallest bit, ( Zyrtec!? ) it turns to OTC, and doesn't help anymore!!? I've tried nasal sprays as my allergies start to get bad, but all they do is make me feel worse!. ( I'm not allergic to any medicines ) My mum and I are thinking about trying allergy shots, though we have heard a lot of negative comments about them from family friends who have tried them!. Such as, "once you start them, they are very hard to get off of" "they never seem to help" "oh you'll really be living in the doctors office now!" etc!. Please note I'm very busy being homeschooled, planning on graduating in 2011, and riding/training horses! Therefor I have no time ( or money! ) to drive an hour to get to the closest allergist for the first few shots and then having to wait at least a half hour after each of them! And then you'll still have to go to your regular doctor a few times a week! So what I'm asking is, what can I do!!? When I get bad allergies, I'm stuck in bed for days! I've heard acupuncture helps, but what do you think!? I used to go to a massage therapist, but they moved and there aren't any others around here!. ( all well over an hour away )
I know that diet sometimes effects allergies, ( I'm not allergic to any foods either ) but I am a healthy eater, having been vegetarian for quite a while now!. So do you have any ideas of what I can do!?!? My doctors are always clueless and are just saying things such as "well lets raise your dosage" or "lets try this medicine" So any advice you have would be more than appreciated!
