What is the diffrence in peritonsillar abscess and strep Throat?!

Question: What is the diffrence in peritonsillar abscess and strep Throat!?
I was having horrible pain in my throat for about 4 days!. Bad fever, and had every sign of strep!. Well the ibuprofen stopped working so I said fine im going into the er and beg them to make the pain go away!. I went in and the doc looked at my throat and then said we are getting you on morphine and having a Specialist look at your throat!.

Another doc came down said I had peritonsillar abscess and they needed to take a needle numb me then make a small cut in my throat and drain stuff out!. Now that i cant feel the pain meds again im back to horrible pain but what is the difference!. The doctor didn't tell me in a way i could understand!.
What is the difference in this and strep!? What would have happened if I didn't have it looked at!? What is worse this or strep!? Is it contagious!? How do you get it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
peritonsillar abscess is caused by diphtheria which is more dangerous and more painful than strep throat!
well basically the clinical feature of strep and diphtheria are same but the complication part is much more severe with the latter!.!. diph causes peritonsillar abscess and quinsy! if you leave it without draining it out , the tonsil may rupture and spread the infection to other parts of your body!.!. and more over diph throat is like excruciatingly painful and doesnt respond to ibuprofen!.!.!. and the doc used morphine to relieve pain! but he must have told you to take anti diphtheritic drugs!.!.!

final treatment of choice is tonsillectomy where you remove the tonsils surgically

A peritonsillar abcess are generally considered a complication of tonsillitis!. Most common in older children and young adults!. The predominant organisms are non-sporeforming anaerobes: Fusobacterium, Bacteroides and anaerobic cocci!. Strep pyogenes (the cause of strep throat ) can also be involved!. It is important to treat a peritonsillar abcess because it can spread to adjacent tissues!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
