Why Can't Anyone Live Without Their Liver?!
Question:
Why Can't Anyone Live Without Their Liver?
My Grandfather Is Dying Of Liver Failure And That's What All Of My Family Want To Know:(
Answers:
Sorry to hear about your grandfather's illness.
The liver fulfills very many important functions, including:
- it makes most of the protein that circulates in the blood
- it stores and releases blood glucose
- it removes all kinds of poisons from the body
The liver is actually more complicated than the lungs or the kidneys, and, unfortunately, unlike the latter cannot be replaced with artificial devices. Transplantation is the only way to replace a failing liver, but in some forms of liver disease cannot be applied.
Best wishes, Michael
