RF factor in a healthy person-why?!
Question:
RF factor in a healthy person-why?
What would cause that to happen?
Answers:
A positive RF test can be found in rheumatic disorders, non-rheumatic disorders, and even in completely healthy people.
Could be positive (but not necessarily) in the following rheumatic disorders: rheumatoid arthritis, sjogren's, lupus, polymyositis, and other mixed connective tissue disorders.
Could be positive in the following, as well: chronic infections, inflammatory disorders, cancer, biliary cirrhosis. This is because in these cases, RF prodcution is stimulated.
Healtly people: 4% will have a positive RF factor test (or even up to 25% in the elderly)
It is just not that "specific"...and thus you get "false positives"...for no good reason.
Hope this helps some!
