How long do you carry the mono virus?!
Question:
How long do you carry the mono virus?
and your not contagious any more?
Answers:
Mononucleosis is usually caused by the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). The virus will remain in your blood the rest of your life, but you will not be reinfected as the antibodies to it will also be in your blood. Regarding contagiousness, most physicians believe that you are no longer contagious after 2-3 weeks of your infection. The level of EBV antibodies in your blood may indicate how long ago you were infected and the physician will base his/her recommendation on that. Some people "shed" the virus in their saliva weeks, months, or even years after infection, but this is not common.
