I have had a hypo-thyroid since I was 13 and I'm now 52!. I still take medication and yes, hyperthyroidism can mimic symptoms of anxiety! The thyroid regulates everything in your body!. I do not to this day know when I'm hungry and I can never tell when I'm full!. That's part of the body the thyroid regulates along with hair growth, metabolism, and pituitary functions to name a few!. In hypothyroidism your body metabolism is sped up as if you were on speed!. You are probably on the thin side, can't gain weight, and feel fidgety if not bordering on ADD!. Mine is the reverse!. I'm tired all the time, fight with being overweight, and so on!. So why would you not think that with a metabolism going 120 miles per hour that this wouldn't make you feel anxious!? You heart rate is going faster than it should be all the time!. Can you take anti-anxiety medication after getting on the thyroid medication!? Absolutely!. A word of caution to you though!. DO NOT mix Xanax with Prozac!. It is a deadly combination but your doctor should know that!. I think that you have an OUTSTANDING doctor that (S)he suggested and found this! Might I also suggest that you look into the Louise Hay book, "You can heal your life" as it has enabled me to walk again after a disabling auto accident, I'm taking only my thyroid medication after being on 13 medications from the accident including anti-depressants and anti-anxiety, and I'm not dead like they said I'd be!. I don't know who you are, but you can take control of your health and your body!. Don't become a victim to yourself!. I wish you health, peace, and much love! Namaste', DebbieWww@Answer-Health@Com

Anxiety is defined as a high heart hate and palpitations!. That's exactly the same symptoms as hyperthyroidism!. Your doctor is right!.
