Oral contraceptives?!

Question: Oral contraceptives!?
Do oral contraceptives really increase the chances of getting and STIS/STDS!? I know contraceptives that have spermicide do because of the nonexyl-9 chemical ingredient, but what about those that do not have this ingreident!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The increased risk comes from a false sense of security that people get when they go on OCPs!.

Women likely to go on OCPs are generally in monogamous relationships, or relationships they THINK are monogamous!. So their priority is less with STD prevention and more about contraception!. After maintaining some sense of consistency, many women decide to forgo condom use!. If the partner strays, she may have to find out the hard way!.

So it's not the drugs themselves!. This is why it's uber-important to continue to use condoms even when in a long-term relationship!.

okay, on another note, sometimes you *do* know that your partner has a chronic STD like herpes!. Well, if you are only using OCPs, the risk for contracting HSV is still present, especially if the partner isn't taking medications to control the flare-ups!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, they don't increase the chance of getting an STD, but they just don't protect you from them!.
The only contraceptive that does protect you from some STDs would be a condom!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
