Radiation Treatments.....?!
Question: Radiation Treatments!.!.!.!.!.!?
Can you please tell me if having Radiation for 5x a wk!. for 6 wks!. is normal!? And why!? And while I know this would be hard on any person, what are the side effects!? Thank you so very much!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I also had radiation treatments to my abdomen for 6 weeks!.!.5x a week!. I think the reason why is because they need to hit the cancer strong and hard to destroy it!. I experienced a few side effects!.!.not awful just unpleaseant!.!.!.nausea, extreme fatigue and a slight burn where the radiation was directed!.!. Just be sure to rest and eat well and stay hydrated and be sure to tell your radiation oncologist of any side effects you may be experiencing because they do not want you to suffer needlessly!. There are meds for the nausea and creams for your skin!.etc!. All and all it is not that bad just something you need to do and then celebrate when you have completed your treatments! I had 42 treatments, 5 x a week, with a break after 30 treatments!. !.
First of all, it is very tiring!. I had to take a nap every day, other than that, my energy level was pretty good!.
All the good cells in the area where the radiation occurs, as well as the bad cells are killed!. The body is very resilient, however, the end result is that most of the smaller blood vessels which carry nourishment to the skin will be killed off!.
They will probably recover, my skin is not much damaged, but the bones in my jaw are more prone to bone loss than they would be if not radiated!.
I have many reactions because of the treatment site, which
was on my cheek!. During treatment, my throat got so sore, I stopped eating!. So we took a few days off, and they sent me home with liquid food supplements!.
My teeth get more caries because I have less saliva, my hearing is greatly effected because the ear canal and ear drum were in the path!.
But, I am free of cancer now for over 16 years!.
I needed to gargle with salt water for the damage to my throat, and I hear that you can bathe in salt water, it will help your skin heal faster during the process!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yup!.!.!.normal!. My mom is currently going thru radiation to destroy two huge tumors pressing on her spine & causing a LOT of pain!.
She's going 5 days a week until further notice, per her dr!.
The side effects are MUCH less than chemo!. She's actually got an allergy to the chemo they WERE doing!.
The radiation is quicker, but your skin can look like you've gotten a bad sunburn!.
