Question: Does anyone know if there is actually a vaccination for the bird flu!?
Me and my mom were arguing about if there actually is one, so an answer would be greatly appriciated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well sort of!. Modern influenza can be traced back to avian origins, therefore; the common flu vaccine we receive every year is a vaccine for evolved bird flu!. As for the newly emerged strain of avian influenza A H5N1,there is not a vaccine!.

Actually there is one that was licensed by the FDA in 2007 - however, it is only slightly effective and for not very long!.

That being said, all supplies are being purchased by govts for stockpiling in case of a pandemic outbreak!. The theory is that it is better to have something than nothing!.

There are other vaccines in the pipeline though that have the potential to be more effective!.

the problem with avian flu is that it will have to significantly mutate to jump to the human population as a pandemic disease - so if you have a vaccine, that will only be good for what is current now but may not be any good after the mutation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
