your GP can order the test. It has nothing to do with the type of doctor doing the test whether it is accurate or not. What determines this is time of day of testing, ranges for the tests, and the type of thyroid test done.
Usually a TSH is done. This is the standard test and often not as accurate as the free t4 and free t3. When having thyroid testing, it should alays be done first thing in the morning when metabolism is near its low point.
I have an under-active thyroid and my doctor told me that blood work is the best way to determine a thyroid problem. I had that iodine test done and it was a waste of time and money according to several doctors I talked to. Blood test is best. Good luck.
it's a blood test and a GP can do it. The results are the same with any doctor. What might be different is how they manage your medication. Most GP's can adjust the meds but an endocrinologist specializes in thyroid disorders.
