How is herpes determined, through a blood test or to swab your no no with a q-ti!
Question: If you have open sores, then the doctor will swab your sores. This is the most reliable method of diagnosing herpes.
If you don't have an active outbreak, then the doctor can do a blood test. It will tell you if you have the virus, but it won't tell you where you have it. Since you can get HSV1 and HSV2 on either your mouth or your genitals, this will tell you if you have herpes, but it won't diagnose genital herpes.
