There are Herpes medications out there, if your bf isnt on one of them, he should be. They include acyclovir (Zovirax), famciclovir (Famvir) and valacyclovir (Valtrex).

Another thing he should do is take L-Lysine. You can get this at any drugstore in the vitamin section. Take 500 mg. per day, every day, and during an actual breakout take 1000 mg. per day. This will do a LOT to control the breakouts and also get rid of any itching.

He also will need to watch his diet. Foods high in L-Lysine will help tremendously. These foods include fish, chicken, beef, lamb, milk, cheese, beans, brewer's yeast, mung bean sprouts and most fruits and vegetables have more lysine than arginine, except for peas.

Be sure to **avoid** foods that contain high levels of ARGININE. These foods bring on outbreaks. If he's eating any of them on a regular basis, STOP. These foods include gelatin, chocolate, carob, coconut, oats, wholewheat and, white flour, peanuts, soybeans, and wheatgerm.

Sugar of any kind brings on outbreaks. Sugar also lowers the immune system by over 50% for as long as a day after you eat it. This will cause his immune system trouble in keeping the Herpes virus in check, and he'll have outbreaks.

Be very careful that he washes his hands with soap and water after touching his penis, even just to urinate. Herpes can be spread to any part of the body, or to anyone else's body by touch - even when there are no obvious symptoms. Which is a good reason YOU should get bloodtests every six months or so to make sure you haven't got it even if your bf hasn't had an outbreak. Herpes is often spread when no symptoms are obvious.

Good luck, and I'm glad you have a considerate loving bf, and he is VERY lucky to have you in his life. Many people with Herpes end up alone or having to date only other people who also have Herpes.

http://www.herpes.com/ has a lot of good information under their menu on the left side of that page.

Any cold - flu- etc that lowers his immune system for a time. is apt to cause an outbreak of herpes.

sometimes certain foods or tight fitting clothing can trigger one. also illness, too much pressure and stress. taking medication can also reduce outbreaks and even prevent one from happening. also not having any sex while your partner is having an outbreak. keepping the immune system strong can also help prevent outbreaks.

anything that will lower the immune system. a simple cold virus can do the trick. Smoking can cause this too. continue to use protection and not to have sex on an outbreak for sure. far and formost take valtrex.
