I have had insomnia over the years and the best thing I have found is prescription Ambien. It helps me fall asleep and when I wake up there is no "hangover" like there is with over the counter drugs. Also, I have taken it on and off over the last 4 years and I have not formed any sort of addiction. I can go for several weeks without it but when I get into a "sleepless" cycle and take one for a few nights, I am fine.

well ambien's the best you have to get a scrpt it works so good, I love it from personal experience.

Brand is not a good factor. Most sleep aids have generics now and they will be exactly the same. I use the ones that have diphenhydramine HCI 25 mg. These are non-habit forming (supposedly). Use as directed. You may want to consult with a doctor anyway, it could be other medical problems causing the insomnia.

ambien is strongest- but has caused sleepwalking accidents. try lunesta! its is strong and less addictive.

Try Tylenol PM. I've used it before and it works great.

Unisom, but you can get a generic also. Compare name brand ingredients with store brand ingredients

tape yourself talking and play it at bedtime then you will go to sleep

OTC pills don't work for me anymore. I use ambien now (the generic called zolpidem is less expensive and works fine for me).

My sleep disorder began when I was 16. I am now 56. My insomnia story is at http://www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm

A list of things I've tried for sleep over the years is at http://www.fms-help.com/sleep.htm - maybe something there will be helpful to you.
