Stomach flu still after 6 days?!

Question: I am coughing ever minute or two and so hard I end up throwing up sometimes. I am still running a fever of 100F or so on and off. Is this normal? From what I read a viral infection normally doesn't last this long. Is there anything I can do to settle my stomach or stop the coughing? Help! Last week was my first week at a new job and I missed the last three days. Now I can't miss Monday so I need something to make me better. Please Help any doctors or Nathuropaths?

Stomach flu? There is no stomach flu. Flu is a respiratory infection and what you have doesn't sound at all like it's originating in your stomach. Viral infections can last up to 14 days depending on the specific virus involved. It may be that you have a bacterial infection and not a viral one at all but without cultures, I wouldn't know. You haven't mentioned any discolored sputum.

When a cough is forceful and frequent, it can trigger a gag reflex that leads to vomiting. Calm the cough and you'll calm the vomiting. Look for a multisymptom cough formula that has a suppressant and treats low grade fever. If you need to, get these separately -- cough suppressant and Tylenol or ibuprofen.

If you're hoping to make it in to work on Monday, absolute rest until then and see how you feel Sunday night. No guarantees, though. If you take this to work and give it to everyone else, you won't get any thank you notes.
