Question: just wondering! I heard that it was really rare..but then someone told me it was the most common.
Answers: just wondering! I heard that it was really rare..but then someone told me it was the most common.
Type O is the most common blood type in the world.
However, when you take into consideration the Rhesus Factor, which is the "+" and "-" after your A,B,AB,O blood type, that's where the confusion lies.
O+ is still the very common and the most common blood type in Canada, however, O- is rare. Only 7% of the population has O- blood.
Making things more difficult and adding to the rarity of O- in terms of blood donations, O- can donate to any other blood type. They are the only universal donor, BUT, they can only receive blood from other O- donors.
This is why you've probably heard that O is both rare and most common.
I beleive it is the most common. it is also the universal blood donor!
Blood type O (+) is the most common blood type, only slightly more than A (+)

Yeah O is the most common. Whoever told you it is rare is a stupid moron and you shouldn't listen to anything they say.
It's definitely the most common. Almost half of all Americans (those of European descent) have type O blood.
O+ is extremely common (my blood type, and both of my parents'), but O- is somewhat rare, although it is usually the most common of all of the negatives. Any negative blood type is rarer than a positive because it is recessive.
If you follow the link below you can scroll down and find a chart of the incidence of blood types in different countries.
its not rare... but its not as common as A or B...

It is a recessive trait but is the most common blood type. Type AB Rh negative is the one that's really rare.
