mental disease is very common in those with chronic hepatitis c infection. it is an "extrahepatic" or "bi-directional" disease of hepatitis c (the causing issue).
i have done treatment, am post 6 years antiviral chemotherapy and have not had one anti-depressant since about 6 months after. for many years prior to diagnosis i was labled "simply depressed" and labled with major depression.

mood swings are common, low self esteem issues, depression, concentration issues, panic attacks, bipolar illness as well as a few others. we have a threefold of any issue or combined issue when one has hcv infection.

not only due virons pass the blood brain barrier, but if you have any type of liver damage (no matter how minimal) you can have an issue with mental disease. when the liver is not functioning well, the waste products tend to back up in our system, thus entering the brain as well by passing the blood brain barrier. basically in a nut shell ? we are toxic.

i would treat as early as i could, this will lesson a possible perminent affect on the brain. i still have short term memory problems and am supposed to take provigil (used for narcolepsy patients) to help open the brain stem. i'm afraid to take it tho. I have tried ritalin and couldn't do that at all-

as always, anything a doctor prescribes you need to take half of the recommended dose to not only keep the liver from stressing and overloading, but from backing up in the system which can also cause more issues related to the brain hepc connection.
