My mothers sickness?!

Question: Recently my mom has been feeling very unwell and just the other night her face and lips were VERY pale and she looked like she was about to die. I took her to urgent care and they sad it was a bad case of the flu, They prescribed us some medicine for her to numb the pain, but thats not working to well.

I just want to confirm that her symptoms are not to dangerous.
Fever
aches and pains all over the body
straining headaches on the right side of the skalp(reoccuring randomlu)
coughing
sore throat
and during the night she literally looks like she is going to die.
her headaches are the worst of them all
i am also worried because all of her symtoms(except for fever) is more painful then past experiances she said.

It sounds like a serious flu, like the doc said. Actually, my aunt was just diagnosed with something similar. Her doc told her that there is a new strand of flu viruses going around. Even if your mom had recieved a flu shot, she would have still gotten sick.
She sounds like she is in bad shape. If she doesn't improve, I would take her back. To be honest, I don't know if these symptoms could lead to something serious or not.

If they've said it's bad case of the flu, then be sure to keep up her fluid intake!

It could be the flu. (If her neck gets stiff, though, then suspect meninigitis...esp if she is a college student).Keep her fever in control by taking Tylenol to keep the fever down and maybe cool washcloths to the forehead or tepid (cool not cold) baths.

Check her pupils of her eyes to make sure they are the same size (if different sizes it could be a stroke). Also check her hand grips to make sure the strength of gripping your fingers with her hands are the same strength on both sides (or could mean a stroke).

If she gets really bad, call the squad.

She sounds like she has a bad case of the flu, but if she is having trouble breathing or her fever is too high take her to the hospital.

The influenza virus is dangerous. My best suggestion would be to get her some chicken broth, Nyquil, Dayquil, Tylenol, Motrin, decongestant (non drowsy), and some vicks vaoprub. The only hting you can do now is get her to drink the broth, breath, and sleep. There is not way to get rid of it except to let it run its course. If she gets worse take her back in. Have her sit up every hour, turn her head and cough after breathing deeply. It will move the secretions in her lungs and keep her from getting a secondary infection of pneumonia. You also may want to get some mucinex and keep her well hydrated. Get her to drink cranberry juice or apple juice. it will acidify her urine and keep bacteria from growing in her urinary tract and it will help keep her hydrated. Get her to drink lots of water and eat the ckicken broth. Alternate the tylenol and motrin just like a child evey 4-6 hours. It will keep her fever at bay and take away the headaches. It will probably work better than the pain killer anyway. If the pain med isn't working I wouldn't take it. It depends on what it is. good luck!

I don't understand why some people are saying things like "it could be the flu" because it IS the flu, the doctor even said so. The symptoms she has are extremely normal and the medication will work eventually. Make sure she drinks lots of fluids and gets plenty of rest. She does have the flu and it will go away. Just give it time and do anything you can to help her out and make her any more comfortable. Her symptoms are not dangerous, they are the classic symptoms of the flu. If she gets worse however, you should take her immediately back to urgent care. I hope she feels better soon. and it is so sweet that you are so concerned for her.

It could be the flu, but if it's not getting better, I'd suggest taking her to another doctor. They told my aunt she had the flu and it turned out she had pancreatitis, and it eventually killed her. She may just have the flu, but if it's bad, you really should get a second opinion. Hope she gets better.
