MAO inhibitors?!

Question: I'm 16 and i was prescribed Nardil an MAO inhibitor.
I have severe depression and many medications didn't work. I've been trying nardil for 2 weeks and i can't eat certain things otherwise I get lethal side effects, such as extreme hypertension. My doctor was very iffy when she was giving me this drug because it is not supposed to be used in teens. My question is that I really wanna know why it is such a bad idea and risky idea for teens to take it.?

MAO inhibitors are effective, but they are used as a secondary medication intervention, especially when more modern or new SSRIs do not work. They have the potential for lethal consequences when taken beyond their recommended dosage. This is why your doctor is hesitant in giving it to you. My advice if you feel suicidal in any way,(thoughts or conceiving any sort of plan) please notify anyone for prevention. The medication may work very nicely to relieve your depression, but it has some degree of volatility with some foods, and other medication and in your case being a teenager (susceptible to impulsive) for suicide ideation. Your medication will have a good chance of relieving depression if you work within your medication's limits. I wish you well.
