I had pneumonia and my left lung was 60% full with fluid and I was wondering how!

Question: Was I hospitalized as a precautionary measure? Could I have been ok if I went home with some antibiotics? Or was being in the hospital really necessary?

Sixty percent is a LOT. That means that you basically have only one lung that's really working, and my guess is that it wasn't entirely clear either. When the percentage of lung function is that low, hospitalization is NOT simply a precaution. In that situation, you needed to be in a place where you could receive oxygen and have IV antibiotics administered, which I hope is what was done! You were also there just in case you needed something more invasive, such as intubation or other procedures. Sounds like you were quite ill.

Hope you feel better soon :-)

that's pretty serious. You really need to rest & take care of yourself now. Make yourself cough & deep breathe which will help clear your lungs. You can try using a back massager or your cupped had to firmly beat on your chest to help break up the mucus & drink lots & lots of water. Take your antibiotics until finished, don't stop just b/c you feel better. Pneumonia is a serious thing. You can spiral down fast.
